Job Description:

We invite applications for Surgical Research Fellow with an enthusiastic interest in pre-clinical research. The successful candidate will lead surgical studies on large animals to develop new surgical approaches in pre-clinical research. The successful candidate will:

• Apply for national and international grants
• Be responsible for budgeting (obtaining grants, getting contracted research agreements and clinical studies, control of the budget)
• Publish results in impacted international journals, present outcomes at international congresses
• Actively search for new potential international partnerships and closely cooperate with existing collaborating institutions

Desirable Qualifications:

• Doctor in Human Medicine or Veterinary Medicine with strong interest in surgery.
• PhD or specialization in surgery desirable.
• Track record of publishing high impact research papers and obtaining grants in the field of surgery
• Experience with management of a research group
• Previous experience with laboratory animals. Experience in lab animals handling should be documented by possession of certification from accredited courses. Other certifications will be considered, but FELASA certification is preferred.
• Fluency in English language (written and oral) is required.
• The applicant should be well-organised, motivated about pursuing a career in biomedical research and with problem-solving attitude. Solid written and verbal communication skills, keen attention to detail and the ability to diligently record and maintain laboratory records are crucial.
• The applicant should have a team-driven mentality and closely collaborate with other researchers within FNUSA-ICRC.

We offer:

• Lead surgical research studies by using large animal models. Focus on biological heart valves degenerative processes considered an advantage. Possible further training on heart valves transplantation.
• Collaboration with the group of Prof McGregor (Heart Hospital, UCL, London, UK) and access to ?-Gal knockout (GTKO) pigs
• Excellent services supporting research, including Grant Support Center, Animal Center and top level technologies
• Participation in national/international congresses and conferences
• FNUSA-ICRC hosts international team members, has a strong publication track record and
• The successful candidate can start immediately.
• Gross salary range: 2000-3600 €/month according to experience
