We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow with a background in immunology and cell biology who will join the team of Dr. Jan Frič focused on cell signaling control of innate immune response and inflammatory regulation of hematopoiesis. The Cellular and Molecular Immunology Group is part of Centre for Translational Medicine (CTM) at the International Clinical Research Center of St. Anne´s University Hospital in Brno (FNUSA – ICRC).

Research focus:

The postdoctoral researcher will develop an independent project in the field of innate immune signaling and inflammatory regulation of hematopoiesis. The postdoctoral researcher will have an opportunity to participate in ongoing grant projects targeting unresolved aspects of pattern recognition receptors signaling in peripheral blood monocytes in context of inflammation and immunosenescence.

The Cellular and Molecular Immunoregulation group (CMI) develops experimental models addressing the role of hematopoietic precursors in orchestrating immune response in tissues (3D models). Furthermore, CMI studies new aspects of pattern recognition receptors signaling pathways. These signaling pathways are main sensors of infection and tissue damage and play the crucial role in control of acute and chronic inflammatory disorders accompanying for example tissue regeneration or aging processes. A better understanding of pattern recognition receptors signaling may lead to new strategies for the therapeutic control of inflammatory disorders.

Starting Date: Immediate (negotiable)

FTE: 1 FTE (full-time assignment), 2 year fixed term contract

 Job Description – you will:

• Undertake independent research with a mentorship of Principal Investigator
• Design, perform and analyze experiments and write papers
• Acquire new technical skills as required by the project
• Write, edit and submit manuscripts/abstracts detailing the results of the project
• Supervise students and younger colleagues and assist with writing grant applications
• Present at conferences and workshops
• Work with cell cultures and peripheral blood cells from donors and patients; analyze inflammatory signaling processes by cellular and molecular immunology techniques.

Desirable qualifications:

• Ph.D. in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology or other related field
• Experience in cellular and molecular immunology including cell culture, signaling, transcriptional regulation and gene expression analysis, cloning and protein assays
• Experience with flow cytometry and confocal microscopy
• Well organized, responsible, self-motivated, creative and flexible attitude
• Positive and team-work personality
• An interest in biology of myeloid cells and cell signaling, chronic inflammation, immunosenescence or hematopoiesis
