Reviewed journal devoted to popularizing the biological sciences (general biology, molecular biology and genetics, physiology, ecology, botany, zoology, paleontology, etc.) with original articles accompanied by extensive color illustrations. Also includes agriculture and livestock raising and publishes work by students and interested laymen. It is the oldest Czech journal dealing with the natural sciences, founded by J.E. Purkyně in 1853.
