Description:
Currently, research and development efforts are ongoing in order to improve the efficiency of producing agricultural products in plant factories in order to ensure a stable food supply. Key factors for efficiently producing agricultural products in plant factories are to shorten the cultivation period and to reduce the plant height to enable multistage cultivation. Such technological development is being actively pursued not only for use in plant factories but also by universities and companies throughout the world.
Accordingly, believing that useful technologies exist throughout the world, the client invites proposals from experts or professional organizations that are experienced in cultivation technologies, in order to further accelerate the client’s research and development.
Anticipated approaches include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
•A: Shortening the cultivation period:
Promotion of blossoming, growth and maturation through optimization of the cultivation environment:
Optimization of the total environment
Optimization of the elements of the environment (light, hydroponic nutrient solution, soil, temperature, humidity, CO2 concentration, etc.)
•B: Reducing plant height:
Suppression of elongation growth through controlled environment (light, hydroponic nutrient solution, soil, temperature, humidity, CO2 concentration, etc.)
New cultivation methods that allow only fruits and leaves that are to be commercial products to grow from a callus or cultured cell.
The following approaches will not be considered:
•Genetic modification.

Requirements:
Anticipated proposals are from those that meet either of the following A or B:
A: Cultivation technologies that shorten the cultivation period of agricultural products:
•Targeted products:
Leafy vegetables: spinach, head lettuce, lettuce, medicinal plants, etc.
Other vegetable plants: tomato, eggplant, bell pepper, etc.
•Cultivation period: For the targeted products, reducing the cultivation time has been verified in the laboratory experiment by modifying the cultivation environment or the cultivation method.
Shorten the cultivation period to no more than half the usual period
Do not degrade the quality of the fruits or leaves that are the commercial products
B: Cultivation technologies that reduce the heights of agricultural products:
•Targeted products: Same as in A.
•Height reduction: For the targeted products, reduction of the plant heights of agricultural products, or production of agricultural products with short plant heights has been verified in laboratory experiments by modification of the cultivation environment or cultivation method.
Reduce the plant height to no more than half the usual height
Do not degrade the quality of the fruits or leaves that are the commercial products.

ANTICIPATED PROJECT PHASES OR PROJECT PLAN
The client will review submitted proposals and possibly ask clarifying questions or request supporting data before selecting the most suitable candidates for collaboration. The client will execute non-disclosure agreements (NDA) with selected respondent(s), seek further information disclosure, and discuss specific development targets or potential opportunities. The client will select the best candidate through evaluations of supporting information, samples, face to face meetings, conference-call, etc.
The client will execute necessary agreement(s) with the selected respondent(s) and kick off the project to establish the technology for three to five years. Specifics of any collaboration will be determined through consultation with the concerned parties.
