Madeira, Portugal (September 15–18, 2005)
Paul Langerhans, the discoverer of both the dendritically shaped cells in the epidermis and the islets in the pancreas, lived and worked on Madeira for several years. The scope of the Workshop will be the biology of Langerhans cells under physiological and, even more importantly, pathological conditions. Langerhans cells are involved in many dermatological diseases, e.g., atopic dermatitis, skin cancers, etc., in ways that are currently being investigated. This Workshop aims at bringing together and discussing the state-of-the-art knowledge on these topics with the perspective of ultimately being able to employ such knowledge for treating diseases. We are striving to ensure a scientifically rewarding meeting - like all the previous Langerhans Cell Workshops. With your participation we can achieve this goal. And, by the way, Madeira is not that far away from the main travelling routes of the world as it may seem (please click travel informations). It may offer a unique opportunity to combine excellent science with history and spectacular scenic surroundings.
