Synthetic Biology in Pharma

The Synthetic Biology in Pharma Conference, jointly organised by avakado media andATG: biosynthetics GmbH, takes place at The Wellcome Trust Conference Centre, Cambridge, UK from Tuesday, March 30 to Wednesday, March 31, 2010. The conference focuses on recent advances in the application of synthetic biology technologies in the fields of biopharmaceuticals and small-molecule therapeutics. Cutting-edge enabling technologies that are accelerating the development of new applications are presented, as well as new bioproduction technologies for new pharmaceuticals, thus covering the complete range of development from initial research to final production strategies.

‘Synthetic Biology in Pharma’ applications can be used in developing cures for many disease indications. Principally, they can roughly be divided into two categories:

(1)Enabling and improving pharmaceutical bio-production processes(2)New molecular medicine strategies for curing diseases

With respect to this, the Synthetic Biology in Pharma conference includes presentations from two keynote speakers, Dr Chris Paddon of Amyris and Professor Wilfried Weber of BIOSS University of Freiburg. Both are experts with high visibility worldwide and both have contributed to the field of ‘Synthetic Biology in Pharma’ with ground-breaking concepts and practical applications.
