Švýcarská společnost hledá substituci polyolefinů

Datum: 5.6.2012

Description:

A Swiss subsidiary of a Japanese company, active in lightweight thermoplastics for use in energy saving applications in packaging and vehicle crash resistant materials is looking for innovative solutions in the field of bio-based polymers in order to lower the environmental impact of their products.

Ideally these materials should be based on feedstock from waste-streams – not competing with food production. Polymers / Materials can be produced from agricultural waste or dedicated energy crops, but only when grown on land that is not used for food production. The geopolymers will be considered as well. The process that is used to convert into suitable feedstock material has to be developed at least at laboratory scale. Ideally these materials should have gone through some proof-of-concept work and should be based on unique IP. If not covered by patents, then the work done up to now should highlight a strong potential for patenting.

Examples of possible materials: succinic acids (enzyme-based), all bio-ethanol based materials/polymers (as long as ethanol is not produced from corn), geopolymers (aluminosilicate based materials).

The Swiss company has a strong preference for joint venture or development partnerships in launching new technology to the market, allowing inventors to participate for several years to come in the continuing development and launch.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements of the request

- The polymer should be melt-processable (like PP, or PE etc) and mouldable.
- They should be preferably processable by using physical expansion methods (CO2, N2, supercritical fluids etc). If this is impossible, chemical expansion will be considered in second choice.
- Contrary to PP or PE, these new materials should present good flame retardant properties (or at least have the potential to be modified in this direction). If mineral-based, they should present ‘polymeric’ properties.
- The material should provide acceptable chemical resistance (same as PP or PE). The materials will be evaluated for application in automotive and building sectors.
