Post-doc position: Molecular machanisms of insulin secretion

Typ práce: hlavní pracovní poměr

Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (www.fgu.cas.cz/en) announces a call for applications for a post-doc position at the Department of Mitochondrial Physiology. The position will be available for 3 years.

Research program: MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF INSULIN SECRETION.

We seek for a highly motivated applicant with background in cell biology, biochemistry or biophysics. Background in diabetes and mitochondrial research is not necessary but beneficial. We require a good publication record, independent thinking, and ability to work single-handedly but within the team, fluent English. Experience with cell cultures, CRISPR/Cas technology, bioenergetics, advanced microscopy techniques, animal experiments and transgenic models is an advantage. Applicants should be no more than two years after their PhD defense (exempts for non-citizens of Czech Republic possible), while maternal leave period is not considered for the timing.

The research project will focus on unraveling of novel molecular pathways essential for redox regulations during glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) and etiology of type 2 diabetes (T2D). The aim is to determine mitochondrial and cytosolic targets essential in redox regulations during GSIS and a possible development of glucotoxicity- and lipotoxicity- related oxidative stress initiating T2D. Models will include insulinoma INS1E cells, isolated beta cells and Langerhans islets. Diabetology studies with rats or transgenic mice will include glucose-tolerance tests, other segretagogues or GLP-1. Also, beta-cell-specific transcription factors will be studied.

The applicant will join an enthusiastic young team (www.mitonet.cz) in the Institute of Physiology, ASCR. We have a strong background in mitochondrial bioenergetics and mitochondrial dynamics; in etiology of diabetes, in vitro studies of beta-cells, and 3D super-resolution microscopy. Our new laboratory is available in the EU supported BIOCEV institute, having access to advanced core facilities of BIOCEV. Mice breading, constructions of new knock-outs or knock-ins will be performed in cooperation with The Czech Centre for Phenogenomics (CCP) of the BIOCEV.

We offer a competitive monthly salary of 40 000 CZK (approx. 1 500 EUR) with a possible surplus according to involvement in other grant projects; and standard 5 weeks holidays per year.

Applicants should send by e-mail to fgu@fgu.cas.cz their application intent containing structured curriculum vitae and two letters of recommendation of two independent referees. After the commissioned approval, the contract will be signed for three years. The contract will obey the applicable law of the Czech Republic. For informal enquiries please mail to jezek@biomed.cas.cz.

Application deadline is two months from the date of publication of the advertisement.
